Cobb lost his IWGP Tag Team Championship title, which he shared with Callum Newman, and he said goodbye at Korakuen Hall on April 19.

He subsequently hinted at ‘retirement’ through a string of X posts aimed at misleading his fans.

‘Working for 16 years is quite a journey; here’s to retirement!… Let the ocean guide me toward my new adventure,’ he shared with an image of the shore. ‘🎶 May I immerse myself in your waters till I ride your tide? 🎶’

Hours prior to Backlash, he posted on Twitter: “I just wrapped up an excellent workout session and I’m amazed that after all these years of visiting LA, this was actually my maiden trip here! Should you be around, I recommend giving it a visit! It features a gym with complimentary tanning services and once you’re through, there’s even a beach nearby for you to enjoy!”

Earlier this week, Cobb made an appearance at the red carpet event for the launch of the remastered versions of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 and 4. He once more brought up his potential retirement, continuing to jest about possibly leaving wrestling behind.
