’s memory alive.

The actress paid a touching tribute to her late friend and
Descendants
costar, who tragically passed away in July 2019, as she marked what would have been his 26th birthday.

In a post on

Instagram

May 28, Dove shared a series of black-and-white pictures taken with Cameron, including a behind-the-scenes shot from the Disney Channel film series alongside


Sofia Carson


and

Booboo Stewart

. The photo carousel ended on a photo of a tattoo she got in Cameron’s memory, depicting a gun with a rose emerging from its muzzle.

“I still feel you all the time,” the 29-year-old wrote alongside the pics. “Catch you in the next life. Happy birthday. I love you.”

Sofia also honored Cameron’s life in a post of her own featuring a photo of the actor.

“Keep dancing in heaven, my Cam,” she wrote on

Instagram

. “Earth could never be the same without you.”

Cameron, who also starred in the Disney Channel sitcom
Jessie
as well as the
Grown Ups
film series,

died in his sleep

at age 20 due to a seizure, his family told E! News at the time. Weeks later, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that he experienced a “

sudden unexpected death in epilepsy,

” deeming his cause of death as natural.

Following the loss, Dove documented her trip to a tattoo parlor to get inked after being inspired by Cameron’s efforts to help end gun violence.

“He wanted to get influential people holding things that sort of looked like they were in the shape of a gun,” she explained in a video for

Vogue

in December 2019, “but then it would be something artistic or peaceful.”

Dove added that she had “been trying to think of a tattoo to get for him since he passed,” declaring that the one she landed on “was really appropriate.”
