MEET RECORD:

41.45 set by Timber Creek in 2014. The 4×100-meter relay has only been run at M of C’s since 2010.

THE CONTENDERS:

Burlington Township, Bergen Catholic, St. Peter’s Prep, Paramus Catholic, Piscataway, Toms River North

LOW SEED WITH THE BEST CHANCE TO MEDAL:

Paramus Catholic

Paramus Catholic showed that they can hang with the best relays in the state when they placed third in Non-Public A (41.85). Senior James Dely (10.47 PR) is only getting faster with every meet, while Cicai Jaramillo, Nehki Martin, Chukwuma Odoh are all proven sprinters in their own right. They are seeded ninth, but the gap between the teams above them — Toms River North (41.81) and North Brunswick (41.83), is extremely thin.

ANALYSIS:

St. Peter’s Prep walked into the group championship weekend as the top relay in the state after posting a N.J. No. 1 time of 41.42 at Penn Relays, but Bergen Catholic’s win in the Non-Public A meet (41.53) certainly changes that narrative. This relay could be won by a few different teams. Burlington Township set a new state lead with a 41.30, dropping more than a full second off their seed of 42.61. Burlington Township’s quartet of Solomon Wesley, Gemaus Sackie, Yeator Tappia and Quayd Hendryx believe that they can take down the state record of 40.92. That’ll certainly be a tall task for them, but that sort of confidence heading into the biggest meet of the year makes them the new favorite going into Wednesday. Bergen Catholic, led by Andrew Jeremiah Boakye, (who won a MOC title as apart of Bergen’s 4×100 in 2023) are also peaking at the right time. Piscataway, finished fifth in the 4×100 last year at MOCs, return three key members of their relay from last year — seniors Noah Grant, Niles Thony and Jamari Atkinson-Waters. They shouldn’t be counted out either, espcially after blasting a N.J. No. 3 time of 41.53 last week.
