Former Little Mix sensation Jade Thirwall didn’t hold back her thoughts on

JK Rowling’s controversial remarks about the trans community at a recent London gig.

Rowling has been under fire for some time, initially sparking outrage with her comments about the trans community in 2019, and now with an upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO, those comments are back in the spotlight. The controversy has seen actors from the franchise

Taking the stage as JADE, the former Little Mix member began by rallying the audience with chants aimed at those who’ve failed to support the trans community. Captured on video, she kicked off by yelling “transphobes” to the crowd, eliciting a resounding “F-k you,” then directly targeted the famed author, reports

“JK Rowling,” she bellowed, which was met with another thunderous “F-k you!” from the attendees. These chants erupted during her performance of her latest single, FUFN (F-k You For Now).

The song is a fiery rebuke to a lover that’s riled her up, demanding space with lines like “Baby back off out my face right now, Don’t you tell me to calm down, No more words, just f–k you for now…We know it’s not goodbye, but it is for tonight.” It seems Jade tailored the song to serve as a pointed critique of Rowling during the event.

Rowling has been a figure of controversy due to her comments and views on the trans and LGBTQ communities since 2018, frequently posting or sharing contentious remarks about trans and non-binary individuals on social media. Her criticisms have persisted after she also targeted other members of the community in April 2025, dubbing International Asexuality Day as “International Fake Oppression Day.”

She has dismissed accusations of being transphobic, identifying herself as a strong advocate for women’s rights, and asserting that she isn’t concerned about her opinions tarnishing her legacy. On the other hand, Jade has been a fervent supporter of the LGBTQ+ communities, even acknowledging in an interview earlier this year that she was ready to face potential backlash for it.

“Cancel culture is thriving now. When you’re in the public eye, it’s quite scary. I’ve always been quite vocal, and I’m not always going to get it right. But you can’t be a pop artist right now without speaking out about certain things,” she expressed.

“I have been warned there could be consequences for speaking out about things like Palestine, but these are basic human rights,” she added.

“We’re seeing an attack on the trans community, and I have a very big LGBTQ+ fanbase. I can’t sit back and not be vocal about defending that community. I’m happy to pay the consequences if it means doing the right thing.”
