Clemson vs. Texas Showdown: Everything You Need to Know for Today’s Super Regional Clash
For the consecutive second day,
Clemson softball
is one win away from its first trip to Oklahoma City for the Women’s College World Series.
The Tigers (48-13 overall) came close to punching their ticket there in Game 2 at the Austin Super Regional against the
Texas Longhorns
(50-11) on Friday but dropped to 7-5 in 10 innings at Red & Charline McCombs Field.
In the fourth inning, Clemson claimed a 4-3 advantage, and they equalized the score at 5-5 during the fifth when rookie Macey Cintron hit her season’s fifteenth homerun. The group led by John Rittman nearly secured a victory against the Longhorns in the eighth inning; they advanced the potential series-winning runner to third base without recording an out following consecutive hits from Marian Collins and Taylor Pipkins.
Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan navigated through the difficult situation to keep the game going into the ninth inning. In the following tenth inning, Texas managed to secure the leading runs, taking a 7-5 advantage. Kavan secured her 24th victory of the season by preventing the Tigers from scoring over the last 5 2/3 innings.
As they vie for a spot in OKC, the Tigers will take on the role of the away team in Game 3 of the super regional scheduled for today.
