One Big Family: 14 Pregnant Nurses Unite in the Same Hospital Unit
Every day, the nursing staff at HSHS St. Vincent Hospital’s Women and Infants Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin, assist with bringing new lives into the world.
Now, it’s their turn.
This week, the hospital disclosed that simultaneously, 14 of its labor and delivery nurses are expecting.
Nurse Ashley Schlies mentioned, ‘We’re like one huge family, and it’s incredible to be able to share our experiences by saying things like, “I’m dealing with this. How about you?”’
Some are seasoned mothers, while others are navigating pregnancy for the first time; however, each one of them is thoroughly prepared. This is due to their background as labor and delivery nurses.
“It would be incredibly awesome to assist in witnessing the miracle of life daily? It’s astounding,” stated pregnant nurse Ali Schmidt.
The nursing manager mentioned that with a team of 87 members, they feel ready to face the coming months.
“They have a plan, and we have the staff and the team we need to continue to provide care,” said Sara Johnson, the Women and Infants Center nursing manager. “Our team is definitely a family, and so it’s cool that there’s an expansion of that family.”
The initial nurse is scheduled for this week. The one from the 14th is expected in October.
Out of the 14 nurses, eleven managed to gather for a photograph, proudly displaying their baby bumps. They have plans to redo this shoot in a year’s time.
“We’re certainly looking forward to having everyone return within a year as all these little ones arrive and we can gather for another group photo!” Schlies stated.
