Actor Chevy Chase visits the Caddie Shack in Canaan
CANAAN, Conn. (WFSB) – A small-town business in northwestern Connecticut had a star-studded moment this weekend when actor Chevy Chase made a surprise visit.
The comedic legend, best known for his role as Ty Webb in the 1980 film
Caddyshack
, stopped by “Caddie Shack,” a food and entertainment venue in Canaan named in tribute to the cult classic.
The visit left owner Keith Ohler stunned and emotional.
“When he came up to the window, I just froze,” Ohler said. “It was one of those moments you don’t think is possible.”
Ohler, a child of the 1980s, opened Caddie Shack with the hope of recreating the fun and family-friendly energy of the film.
The spot features miniature golf, batting cages, food, and ice cream. He always dreamed one of the film’s stars might visit, but never expected it would actually happen.
Chase, who was passing through the area, heard about the business and decided to check it out.
He ordered two hot dogs and posed for photos, which he later shared on social media.
“I’ve been cooking hot dogs for 14 years, and I’ve never felt so much pressure,” Ohler joked. “It had to be perfect.”
“He was such a gentleman,” he said. “Cracking jokes with us, just being incredibly friendly.”
The viral moment gave Ohler and his business a boost of visibility and a story they’ll never forget.
He plans to announce a Chevy Chase-themed special on the business’s Instagram page, @caddieshackct, in the coming days.
“I want to thank him for taking the time to stop by and make this experience unforgettable,” Ohler said.
