“Blue Bloods ”spinoff “Boston Blue ”adds “Psych ”star Maggie Lawson
Lawson will join Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green in the next chapter of the “Blue Bloods” story.
Boston P.D. has found its new Superintendent.
Psych
star
Maggie Lawson
is that latest addition to the growing cast of
Boston Blue
,
CBS
‘ planned spinoff of
Blue Bloods
.
Entertainment Weekly
has confirmed that Lawson will join
Donnie Wahlberg
,
Sonequa Martin-Green
, and
Ernie Hudson
, whose casting was
announced last month
, in the continuation of the
Blue Bloods
saga which moves the action from the Big Apple to Bean Town.
Lawson will play Sarah Silver, the Boston Police Department’s “strong-willed and decisive” superintendent. Silver is described as “well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family.” The actress is best known for playing Detective Juliet “Jules” O’Hara in all of
Psych
‘s eight seasons and three spinoff films.
After 14 seasons in which its popularity barely ever ebbed,
Blue Bloods
was
canceled by CBS
in Nov. 2023. Wahlberg’s costar and on-screen father,
Tom Selleck
, called it “an honor and a privilege” to work on the series, which also starred
Bridget Moynahan
,
Will Estes
, and Len Cariou. “We offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night,” he said in a statement at the time.
But the shock and even outrage the series’ cancelation provoked in its loyal fans refused to die down. Wahlberg himself speculated on what a
spinoff based around his character
, Danny Reagan, might look like in December, two months before
CBS announced
Boston Blue
. “I would say I would have Danny Reagan walk right into his next chapter of his life, maybe in a different place doing a similar job and perhaps with someone from the current cast. But I want him to not be too far from the family so that he could still see them and spend time with them.”
Wahlberg got his wish, as Danny will be fighting crime just a four-hour train ride away from the rest of the Reagans.
Slated for a premiere in the 2025-2026 broadcast season,
Boston Blue
catches up with Reagan after he decides to leaved NYPD for the Boston PD and is paired with Lena Peters (Martin-Green), the scion of a powerful Boston policing family. Hudson will play Lena’s grandfather.

Still nothing so far on Wahlberg’s wish to be reunited with “someone from the current cast,” but across 14 seasons,
Blue Bloods
collected and extensive supporting cast to draw from, including Marisa Ramirez,
Vanessa Ray
,
Bebe Neuwirth
,
Holt McCallany
,
Tamara Tunie
, and
Lorraine Bracco
