Cal evens the series against FSU
The
No. 2 FSU baseball
team lost to the California Golden Bears 5-0 on Saturday at Stu Gordon Stadium in Berkeley, California. The Seminoles fell to 35-11 overall and 15-8 in ACC play with the loss.
The team’s offense struggled throughout, ending the game with only six hits, no walks, and 13 strikeouts. This marks merely the second time they have been shut out this season.
In the third inning, Cal seized a 1-0 advantage after hitting a leadoff home run against Joey Volini. Florida State finally got an opportunity to score during the fourth frame, stringing together three consecutive hits to fill up the bases with just one player retired. However, they failed to bring any runners home as two successive outs—a strikeout and a groundout—terminated their offensive push.
The Golden Bears blew the game open in the fifth, scoring four more runs to go up 5-0. Two walks, a single, and a wild pitch scored two runs before a two-run homer completed the inning.
That marked the end of Volini’s pitching stint; John Abraham took over for the last three innings. During his time on the mound, Volini conceded five runs off seven hits and three walks. Conversely, Abraham didn’t yield a single hit in those concluding frames but issued two walks and fanned five batters.
