During the Rookie of the Year award, he performed exceptionally well against Chicago, achieving a triple-double with stats of 20 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Reese had a commendable game as well, notching up a double-double by scoring 12 points along with grabbing 17 rebounds.

But, in truth, the WNBA opener between the Fever and the Sky was not a contest, with Indiana running out convincing winners.

Following the game, the Sky posted a graphic on X, praising Reese for her double-double performance. They captioned the player of the game post: “Double Double for 5”.

And that post has seen Chicago receive plenty of backlash on social media for praising the former LSU star in what was a 35-point defeat.

“Didn’t they lose by 30?” wrote one basketball fan on X. Another added: “Losing by 35 shouldn’t warrant a play of the game recognition… So basically everyone is getting participation trophies.”

A third said: “Y’all still gassing these double doubles while losing by almost 40 as if it means something.” A fourth wrote: “Didn’t know we gave out POTG awards for teams that lost by 35.”

And another commenter added: “To precisely monitor her offensive rebounds and inflate her rebounding statistics, missed layups must also be factored into the equation.”

After the Fever defeated the Sky, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III suggested that Reese might “hate” Caitlin Clark.

“Following Caitlin Clark’s blatant foul against Angel Reese and the resulting events, there is no possible way for Angel Reese to keep up the pretense that she has no ill feelings toward Caitlin Clark,” Griffin III stated on X.

I understand how hatred appears. Angel Reese absolutely HATES Caitlin Clark. This isn’t just about a typical basketball rivalry; this is genuine hate.

Nevertheless, Clark played down any conflict between them after the match. “I went for the ball, plain as day in the replay,” Clark stated regarding the occurrence.

When you see it, you realize it didn’t deserve an upgrade. Once again, that depends on the referees’ judgment, but I’m grateful for AB [Aliyah Boston] supporting me.
