DP’s Lee Readies for Rally in Liberal Stronghold as PPP’s Kim Returns to Seoul

The Democratic Party (DP) contender Lee Jae-myung plans to host a campaign event in South Jeolla, whereas the People Power Party (PPP) nominee Kim Moon-soo went back to Seoul on Thursday, marking the fourth day of their formal campaigns for the presidency.
Lee, Kim, and Lee Jun-seok from the smaller New Reform Party are engaged in a three-way contest for the upcoming presidential election on June 3rd. This election aims to choose a new leader following the departure of ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol after he unsuccessfully attempted to impose martial law. Currently, Lee from the Democratic Party continues to hold a significant advantage according to various poll outcomes.

South Jeolla is regarded as a bastion for the Democratic Party (DP), and Kim from the People Power Party (PPP), which continues to be in disagreement regarding Yoon’s removal, plans to attract moderate voters in Seoul.
Lee from the DP planned to commence the fourth day of his official campaign by engaging with young attendees at Hwagae Market in Hadong, South Gyeongsang. The focus was on discussing issues such as job opportunities, housing, and childcare.
Lee will subsequently visit the cities of Gwangyang, Yeosu, Suncheon, and Mokpo in Jeolla, often referred to as the Honam region, which has traditionally been a stronghold for the liberal DP party.
On Wednesday, Lee carried out his campaign activities in the strongly conservative areas of Busan as well as the adjacent cities of Changwon, Tongyeong, and Geoje.
On the contrary, Kim from the PPP plans to concentrate his efforts on the Seoul metropolitan region. He will begin with an early morning event focused on artificial intelligence and business strategy discussions hosted by the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises. In the afternoon, he intends to interact with daily travelers at Sindorim Station located in southwest Seoul.
Earlier this week, Kim embarked on campaign stops in Daegu, Busan, and other areas within the Yeongnan region located in the southeastern part of the country. The aim was to garner backing from conservative voters before heading back to Seoul.
