President

William Ruto

Has implemented leadership alterations across three state-run organizations. According to an official bulletin released on May 23, 2025, the President named ex-Governor of Taita Taveta, Granton Samboja, as the chairman of the Pyrethrum Processing Company.

Samboja served as the second governor of Taita Tavetta after spending numerous years as a journalist with the Royal Media Services (RMS). He then transitioned into politics.

He will act as the chairperson of the Pyrethrum Processing Company board for a duration of three years.

“Exercising the authority granted under section 6(1)(a) of the State Corporations Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces, hereby appoint—GRANTON SAMBOJA as the Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya. This appointment will last for a term of three (3) years, beginning on May 23, 2025,” stated a portion of the announcement.

Term as Governor of Taita-Taveta

After failing to secure re-election in the 2022 general elections, Samboja has taken up a new position within the state government.

The ex-RMS reporter, who joined politics in 2017 with the Wiper party, acted as the second governor of Taita Taveta County.

In 2022, he attempted re-election under the banner of the Jubilee Party but was defeated by independent candidate Andrew Mwadime.

Throughout his term, Samboja encountered numerous hurdles such as doubts regarding his educational qualifications and ongoing disputes with the County Assembly. These disagreements intensified to the extent that he appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta at the time to disband the county administration.

He was also impeached by the County Assembly, but the Senate overturned the decision, allowing him to complete his term. The prolonged disputes led to several court battles until the end of his administration.

Before venturing into politics, Samboja worked as a journalist at RMS. He later quit and founded Milele FM, which he eventually sold to Mediamax.
