Generations Unite: RetroGameCon Draws in Video Game Enthusiasts
Saturday– Central New York gamers got together and spent a day in pixel paradise.
Retro games, board games, and cosplay! At this year’s spring edition of RetroGameCon the choice is yours and it’s all being done for a great cause.
“I love the community and bringing everyone together. It’s so much fun,” said long time gamer Kim Wicks.
Kim Wicks says she’s been playing video games since she could hold a controller.
Wicks drove two hours from Albany to attend her first RetroGameCon creating the feeling of nostalgia and connecting her to past experiences.
“My parents waited in line to get the original Nintendo when it came out, so it’s just been in my life forever,” said Wicks.
And Wicks got the chance to play Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars which is her favorite game of all time.
“It was an amazing game I recommend both the original and the remake,” said Wicks.
Nathan Grant is one of the event coordinators for RetroGameCon and he says the coolest part of the event is seeing gamers from all different generations come together and share their love for gaming.
“The parents are bringing their kids, showing them what they played and actually getting a chance to play those games,” said Grant.
Kim Wicks told CNY Central, “What’s really cool is now you’re seeing new generations. You’re seeing people who grew up on the original Nintendo entertainment system and now their kids are playing it too.”
Grant says all charity raffles and donations directly impact the Golisano Children’s Hospital through Extra Life Charity.
The fall edition of RetroGameCon will be in October and is a three-day event
