Georgia Eyed as Top Seed in 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament
In the 2025 SEC Tournament, Georgia is set to compete on Wednesday. The matches they play in that tournament might be their sole contests held outside of Foley Field, unless they advance to the College World Series. At present, such an advancement appears quite plausible.
According to D1Baseball
Georgia is expected to be seeded fifth in the NCAA Tournament. This seeding could allow them to host a regional round. If the Bulldogs secure victory in this four-team regional, they will advance to a two-team super regional, also played in a best-of-three series, which would grant them access to compete in Omaha.
Georgia is currently
ranked third in the country
According to Baseball America, which hasn’t issued new NCAA tournament projections yet, they currently have the Bulldogs seeded fifth. However, D1 Baseball places the Bulldogs tenth despite listing them as a number five seed earlier.
According to projections from D1 Baseball, Texas leads as the number one seed, followed by Arkansas at second place and Vanderbilt ranking third. This season, Georgia faced each of these teams: they hosted the Longhorns and Commodores away, where they got swept in both series; however, when facing Arkansas at their home stadium, they managed to win two out of three games.
North Carolina is expected to be seeded No. 4. Auburn enters as the No. 6 seed. Earlier in the season, the Tigers were swept by Georgia in Athens. LSU and Oregon follow closely behind, completing the top eight seeds respectively.
On Saturday, Georgia concluded their regular season with a 7-5 victory against Texas A&M. This win secured them the series advantage, bringing their conference record to an impressive 18-12. Throughout the entire season, they maintained a solid performance with a total score of 42 wins out of 14 losses, showcasing dominance as they clinched 28 victories from their 33 home games compared to just 10 wins in away matches. Additionally, Georgia excelled even further when playing at neutral venues, achieving a perfect 3-0 record this year. Notably, one significant triumph included defeating the anticipated No. 16-seeded rival team, Georgia Tech, during a game held at Truist Park earlier this month.
The next challenge for Georgia will come from whichever team wins today’s contest between Oklahoma and Kentucky. They are scheduled to face the victor of this initial match-up later during the second game on Tuesday. With the first game starting at 10:30 PM ET, it suggests that Georgia could potentially play their follow-up match sometime around midday or early afternoon.
Georgia was the No. 7 seed in last season’s NCAA tournament and hosted both the regional and super regional. The Bulldogs went undefeated in its regional, which included Georgia Tech, Army, and UNC-Wilmington. They hosted NC State in the super regional and fell one win short of the College World Series. UGA earned that national seed even after losing its first game in the 2024 SEC Tournament.
