From within Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Bruno Silva was taken down in the first round using elbows in the clinch.

As both combatants urgently sought a victory heading into Saturday evening’s bout, Barriault, competing in front of his local supporters, faced a challenging run of form with three consecutive losses (two resulting from knockouts). Meanwhile, Silva, undefeated via strike-outs in all his previous mixed martial arts matches, entered the cage following four successive defeats within the Octagon. One of these competitors would face an abrupt end to their recent misfortunes.

Luckily for the fans from Canada who were present, Barriault began with an impressive start. This time, Silva managed to land some effective strikes as opposed to his recent lackluster displays; however, Barriault consistently found his target. Known as “Power Bar,” he ultimately succeeded in maneuvering inside and utilizing his superior clinching skills. Barriault landed quick jabs along with two forceful elbow strikes, rendering Silva unconscious before sending him down onto the mat. Although Barriault delivered additional blows afterward, the fight had essentially been decided at that point.

Unfortunately, Silva took an exceptionally long time to come back to his senses and couldn’t exit the octagon unaided. The UFC medical team brought in a stretcher and helped Silva onto the waiting ambulance behind the scenes. Despite the frightening situation, Barriault’s performance will likely be remembered as one of those iconic moments.
