Mariska Hargitay will be showcasing her behind-the-scenes experience in production in an even bigger, and more personal, way.

The longtime “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star announced May 28 she’s launching a production company called Mighty Entertainment.

The venture will feature scripted and unscripted divisions that will “tell stories that connect us to our courage, curiosity and compassion,” according to a press release.

Mighty Entertainment’s first project will be one especially close to Hargitay’s heart:

a documentary about her mom, Jayne Mansfield, called “My Mom Jayne.”

“My experience making ‘My Mom Jayne,’ my feature directorial debut, has underlined for me how the universal can grow out of the personal, and the gifts that come from re-examining accepted narratives,” Hargitay said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to build this company with a powerful team dedicated to telling urgent, compelling, important stories.”

Hargitay, who has previously served as a director and executive producer on “SVU,” was recently in France with her family for

the premiere “My Mom Jayne” at the Cannes Film Festival

.

Her husband, Peter Hermann, will serve as the creative director for Mighty Productions.

The company’s vice president, Lauran Bromley, and head of documentary, Trish Adlesic, previously worked with Hargitay on the their Emmy-winning 2017 HBO documentary, “I Am Evidence,” which highlighted the high amount of untested rape kits in the United States.

“It has been a privilege to amplify underrepresented voices, and that personal mission will extend to this company,” Hargitay said.

Mighty Productions’ logo of a girl on a bicycle was inspired by an old photo Hargitay found of herself while researching for “My Mom Jayne.” The pic even reminded her of her iconic “SVU” character, Capt. Olivia Benson.

“I’m leaning forward, so determined and so clear, ‘I’ve got this. I’m handling it. I’m navigating it. I’m good.’ I saw this picture and it’s already me. It’s 3-year-old Olivia Benson,” she told

Variety

. “She’s not f—— around.”

“And we’re off!” the caption reads.

The name of the company also stems back to a personal connection for Hargitay.

“I was dating somebody in my 20s, and he was friends with Jack Nicholson. Jack Nicholson said, ‘How’s Mighty?’ It was my favorite nickname, because I was like, ‘That’s right, Jack,’ and I met him maybe twice. I’ll take it, I’ll own it, and I’ll run with that,” she said.

Fans will be able to see “My Mom Jayne” in the U.S. when it premieres in June at the Tribeca Film Festival and will air June 27 on HBO.
