‘If you don’t try, they will die’ | American Heart Association stresses importance of CPR training
During CPR Awareness Week, the American Heart Association encourages everyone to get trained in the lifesaving technique.
The
American Heart Association
says about
90%
of people who endure out-of-hospital cardiac arrests die. Only about
10%
survive. If this happens, the AHA says the victim’s survival depends on getting CPR immediately.
While there are different levels and types of CPR, Nurse Gwen Fosse told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that even simple compressions can make a huge difference.
“The most important thing is for you not to hesitate. If you don’t try, they will
die
. So, what we want is to have more people that, whether they’ve been trained or not, to feel comfortable pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest, they don’t have a chance unless somebody responds,” said Fosse.
