Iowa Unveiled: The Unexpected Decision Shaping Local Politics
DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capitol Bureau) – Lynn Evans expected to head home to Aurelia when the Iowa legislative session ended and prepare to start his third year at the Statehouse when lawmakers return in January. Instead, he is planning an unexpected campaign for Congress.
Lynn Evans outlines his reasons for considering a run for Congress.
Evans, a Republican representing Aurelia and serving his first term as a state senator, decided to establish an exploratory committee with intentions of running for Iowa’s 4th Congressional District after making two other major choices.
1. On April 11th, Governor Kim Reynolds stated that she would not be seeking re-election.
2. U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra — a Republican hailing from Hull who is currently in his third term representing the 4th District — declared on May 19th that he had established an exploratory committee with intentions to run for governor in 2026.
Evans was the inaugural Republican to declare intentions that might result in his candidacy against Feenstra’s position in the upcoming year. In an interview with Gray Media Iowa, he mentioned his plan to engage with Iowans across 30 days to assess whether he can garner sufficient backing for a congressional bid.
Ryan Melton, an insurance manager and Democrat from Nevada, already announced his campaign for a third straight election to run for the 4th District seat.
Who’s joining in? Who’s stepping back? And who’s still considering a run for governor?
