Jenna Bush Hager has given a long awaited update for fans on her process

to finding Hoda Kotb’s replacement on the TODAY Show.

After the pair shared

an emotional, tear-filled reunion

on-air last week, viewers are eager to hear what the latest update is in replacing Hoda on the show. In an interview with

People

, Jenna shared, “We’re still searching. We definitely want somebody permanent at some point just because that’s our show, and I think the

Today show

is such a family.”

The 43-year-old journalist continued, “So to have somebody sit in that seat means a lot to all of us. So it will happen. I think we’ve all just been kind of living day by day, and we don’t have any developments yet, but we will.”

In January of this year, Hoda stepped down from her position on the TODAY Show after 17 years, after co-anchoring the show from 2007 to 2025. She first joined the TODAY Show as a co-host of the fourth hour, and later became a co-anchor of the 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. time slots.

During their reunion, Hoda dished on her reasons for leaving the show, sharing that her main reason for exiting was to spend more time with her family. In this, she also shared that her daughter Hope had been hospitalized and in the intensive care unit before being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Speaking on being behind the desk with Hoda once again, Jenna told People, “It was so nice,” and added, “Even if time goes by, there’s a connection that is undeniable, and I felt that way being with her.”

She continued, “I just felt like my nervous system kind of relaxed, and it was so nice to be with her. There could have been no better reunion. It felt really great.”

On the morning show Hoda and Jenna would share lively conversations on domestic and international news. The pair would touch on a wide variety of topics including politics, business, media, entertainment, sports, and more.

Before becoming a news anchor, Hoda worked as a reporter for a number of local news outlets. Hoda worked as a journalist all across the U.S., including stations in Mississippi, Illinois,

Florida

, and Louisiana, and later as a correspondent for Dateline NBC.

Since leaving the TODAY Show, Hoda has spent quality time with her family and has launched her own personal wellness brand Joy 101. The mission of Hoda’s new brand is to “empower individuals to live more joyful, grounded, and purposeful lives.”
