) – Ron Killings, known in the WWE as “R-Truth,” announced his release from the company after 17 years on Sunday.

social media

, Killings broke the news and expressed gratitude to fans.

“I’m sorry to inform you all. I just got released from WWE. I want to thank WWE for the ride, but mostly I want to thank each and every one of you who was along for the ride,” Killings wrote. “Thank you for all the love, support, and appreciation you have given me over the years. Thank you.”

WWE has not publicly revealed why Killings’ contract was not renewed.

for Killings — which still listed him among its “superstar” roster as of Monday — the company said the WWE “would probably not be nearly as entertaining without R-Truth in it.”

“As hilarious as he is prolific, WWE’s resident rapping Superstar has stuck and moved his way throughout sports-entertainment for the better part of two decades, making his mark on some of the most memorable moments in WWE history,” his biography reads, in part.

During his run with the company, Killings held the WWE 24/7 Championship 54 times. He has also held the United States Championship, Hardcore Championship and Tag Team Championship belts two times each.

In the wake of Killings’ release, several WWE superstars reacted to the news on social media. John Cena simply posted a photo of R-Truth on Instagram. Rhea Ripley called it “heartbreaking,” while Trinity simply said,

“I hate this so much.”

Mike “The Miz” Mizanin also

said

he would miss the “joy” Killings brought to their events.

“You had this insane ability to make me break in front of thousands of people, and I loved every second of it,” he wrote.

“You’re not just one of a kind … you’re one in a lifetime,” Mizanin added. “Whatever’s next, I know you’ll shine like only you can.”
