Plug and Play Pioneers Sports-Tech Innovation Hub in Frisco
Tech This Out, marking a new chapter in sports technology and innovation, has made its official debut in North Texas through the inauguration of “Origin.” Origin is a cutting-edge innovation hub located in this region. The global innovation powerhouse Plug and Play collaborated with the City of Frisco and the Frisco Economic Development Corporation to host a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event celebrating the launch of this facility.
The 6,000-square-foot facility, situated within the Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research center at The Star, intends to play a crucial role in progressing the realm of sports. Origin will focus on four primary areas related to athletics: enhancing human capabilities and performance, preventing injuries and aiding recovery, leveraging data and media, and engaging with fans and organizations.
“North Texas demonstrated a remarkable enthusiasm for collaborating with startups, engaging the corporate sector, and connecting with investors. We aim to establish a unique, comprehensive resource center for these initiatives,” said Kevin Parakkattu, who leads Plug and Play Texas.
David Steele, who leads Plug and Play Frisco, highlighted the rapid growth of these industries. He stated, “The scale is enormous; multibillion-dollar markets. When you consider all the sports brands, teams, leagues, along with national governing bodies within the U.S., plus global entities such as FIFA, LA 28, the Olympics, and the IOC—all of this contributes to our operational environment.”

Steele went on to say that this ecosystem aims to boost innovation among local startups, draw in venture capital, and link these growing businesses with Plug and Play’s vast network of global Fortune 1000 corporations and well-known sports teams.
According to Parakkattu, being close to prominent sports organizations offers a considerable benefit. He notes, “These teams—like the nearby Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Baylor Scott & White—are within easy reach, turning this area into a hub for human capability and achievement.”
Prior to its formal launch, the initiative has demonstrated encouraging outcomes. “So far, we have assisted 32 start-ups. In just one year, we’ve helped accelerate their growth for 32 different startup ventures,” Steele disclosed. “These enterprises are gaining momentum, having inked agreements with major entities like the New York Yankees and FC Liverpool, as well as engaging in significant talks with global organizations aimed at further boosting these firms’ efforts.”
Currently, Plug and Play manages five sites throughout Texas, including
one in Cedar Park
The organization sees the Frisco location as a crucial move toward expanding its presence across the state. As Parakkattu stated, “This venture into Frisco marks our initial entry into a substantial real estate hub in Texas; however, it certainly will not be our final one.” This statement implies forthcoming developments within the Texas marketplace.
