RAW
RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JUNE 2
Pressure building up inside my head, get the strangest looks, what have I said? Got to snap out but I just can’t start, feel as if I’m gonna fall apart. Get a grip on the line, keep your balance, see the danger sign. Gonna run out of time, but not before I liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with a recap of last week’s Money in the Bank qualifier that saw Seth Rollins gain a spot in the ladder match after a colossal amount of interference, and CM Punk’s attack afterwards.
The usual montage of talent arriving at the arena follows.
Pat McAfee reminds us of the basketball bet he and Michael Cole made, which Pat won, meaning Cole has to call the show in a tank top. Michael begrudgingly takes his shirt and jacket off to reveal the tank and he flexes a little for the crowd.
CM Punk makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He says he thinks he hears thunder and they might be on pace to get a little bit of a thunderstorm here, which I assume is a sports reference from the way the crowd reacts. He says it’s the summertime, it’s Summer of Punk time, Money in the Bank is coming up and he’s a two-time MITB winner and he’s looking very forward to doing it for the third time.
It’s the Summer of Punk and it’s time that CM Punk got some gold around his waist, and right now two people are on top of the mountain. One is his friend, Jey Uso, so respectfully, when he wins the briefcase, if it’s them, it’s not personal, it’s just business. The other name on top might be a little personal, and his name is John Cena.
He cut his teeth in the company coming to places like this and hearing people go absolutely banana for Cena, but now he’s sold his soul to a bald goof, and when he wins Money in the Bank, if he so chooses, he’s always had John’s number and he’ll pick the bones, little bitch.
It’s Monday night and he’s not just happy to be here, yes it’s about the money, but he wants to be a champion one more time and he’ll see us after he qualifies tonight.
Enter Sami Zayn, as a frisky CM Punk sings along with his music.
Zayn gets on the mic and Punk speaks first, saying normally he’s upset when people interrupt him but with Sami he doesn’t mind so much. Zayn appreciates that and he says he’s out here because this is the first time Punk has spoken so clearly about his plan to become world champion. It’s no secret that Sami as well wants to win a world title, but unfortunately Money in the Bank isn’t his path.
He tells CM that tonight is more must-win than it’s ever been and he’s talking about Cena and Uso and all these people but he knows he’s probably thinking about Seth Rollins and all them after what they did, but he and Jey Uso will deal with Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, so Punk should get them out of his mind.
Punk says he’s got his back and Sami says he doesn’t need that, he just needs CM to stay on target and get in Money in the Bank to neutralize Seth Rollins. If Seth wins the briefcase, this company turns into something different, something unrecognizable, something neither of them will like.
So he needs Punk to win tonight and get into the ladder match. But he needs CM to know that if he wins Money in the Bank and he wins one of those titles, they’ll meet in this ring again and the conversation will be very different. Punk says he looks forward to it and they shake hands.
Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez are chatting backstage when Roxanne Perez rolls up to ask how she can help.
Liv still isn’t interested in her help and she walks off and runs into IYO SKY around the corner.
Morgan says she’s gonna win Money in the Bank and take her title but SKY says it ain’t gonna happen.
Liv Morgan makes her entrance to send us to break.
Ivy Nile vs. Liv Morgan vs. Stephanie Vaquer (Money in the Bank Qualifying Match)
Vaquer sent to the apron, cuts the feeling out off with a big crossbody, sunset flip on Nile, Morgan in with a kick but Stephanie lands a back suplex on her! Devil’s Kiss follows, on Ivy too for good measure but Liv breaks it up with a dropkick! Drawing Vaquer to her feet, Three Amigos, trading waistlocks, Ivy rushes in and German suplexes the both of them as we go to break!
Back from commercial, Vaquer with a dragon screw on Nile for a nearfall, trading elbows with Morgan in the middle of the ring, Liv goes up top, Stephanie cuts her off, jockeying for position, Ivy runs in… TOWER OF DOOM! Vaquer and Nile trading pins in the aftermath, bridging victory roll… NOPE!
Diving double Codebreaker from Morgan, double pin… NO FALL! Oblivion blocked, backslide for two, underhooks, Liv floats over away from SBB and lands a Codebreaker! Oblivion connects but Ivy tries to steal the pin… AND MORGAN BREAKS IT UP! Nile rushes back in and gets caught…
Stephanie Vaquer wins by pinfall with SBB on Ivy Nile, qualifying for the Money in the Bank ladder match.
AJ Styles is backstage when Paul Heyman rolls up and offers a handshake.
Styles denies him and asks what he’s here for, and Paul says he’s just here to wish him a happy birthday and he’s brought him a gift of intrinsic value, information, wisdom. We all see Dominik Mysterio as Intercontinental Champion running around with his Dirty Sanchez moustache and disgracing the title.
We could truly use a Phenomenal Intercontinental Champion and the Money in the Bank briefcase is an albatross around your neck anyway, so he asks AJ to focus on not winning tonight so much as trying to neutralize CM Punk and then going to win the Intercontinental Championship.
AJ asks him if he’s not tired of selling crap and they’ve known each other long enough that Paul should know better than to threaten him and he knows by dint of that experience that that’s exactly what this is. So he’s got some advice for Heyman— go back and tell Seth Rollins that he knows all about his plan.
And the old saying that everybody’s got a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
He slaps Paul hard on the back and walks off to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Rusev cuts a promo.
He says Sheamus looked disappointed at him, and how dare he. Last week he ran out to help a stranger but when the Redeemer needed him years ago he refused him help. But things are different now, he is the son of thunder and Sheamus has a neck made of sand and he’s going to fight the one guy who has a move to take it away like a snap.
Sheamus is backstage with Natalya and Maxxine Dupri, giving Akira Tozawa a pep talk and telling the girls that he thinks they can be a great tag team with heart. Nattie says Maxxine has impressed her a lot lately and the Alphas leave.
An interview rolls up on Sheamus.
He says he and Rusev go way back, and he was a groomsman at his wedding, but his WWE career imploded from his own bad decisions, and his career outside lasted about as long as Rusev Day, but Sheamus has been putting on banger after banger every week and Rusev is here trying to rebuild his name by beating up guys half his side like a coward?
So he has a message for his old friend Rusev— He bullies bullies.
Judgment Day make their entrance to send us to break.
Judgment Day (Finn Balor & JD McDonagh) vs. War Raiders (Erik & Ivar)
New Day are on commentary for this one.
Balor and Erik to start, side headlock from Finn, big Viking powers out and lands a shoulder block, but he gets rammed into the corner and McDonagh tags himself in! Back and forth, action to the floor, New Day get involved and get ejected and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Ivar shrugging everything McDonagh has for him right off, spinning side slam, the path is clear! Tags made, Erik bowling Balor over with elbows, exploder suplexes all around and he clotheslines JD out of the ring! Fighting out of 1916, pop-up headbutt and the running knee… SO CLOSE!
Ivar tags in, JD takes Erik out with an Asai moonsault, back inside and Balor misses with the Coup de Grace! Cartwheel into a reverse roundhouse fends McDonagh off and Warbeard lands a Bronco Buster on Finn! Roxanne Perez appears to run interference, JD spikes Ivar’s face into the post, Balor comes off the top again…
Judgment Day win by pinfall with Coup de Grace from Finn Balor on Ivar.
Becky Lynch gets a pretaped promo where she accuses Lyra Valkyria of being an echo chamber for the ignorant who don’t know what greatness is and claims she’s forgotten everything she taught her.
Lyra Valkyria is shown walking backstage to send us to break.
Back from commercial, Stephanie Vaquer is interviewed and says she feels great.
Rhea Ripley rolls up and shakes her hand and says she’ll see her out there.
Lyra Valkyria makes her entrance and gets on the mic.
She says Becky Lynch has such big brave words from her safe hiding spot in the back and tells her to stop being a coward and get out her so she can say what she has to say straight to her face.
Enter Becky Lynch.
She comes down talking but Lyra cuts her off and says she’s shown herself to be delusional to a point where it’s sad and she’s only managed to stay on top by giving up on being a good person. But since she’s started trying to ruin her life, she has changed, but that change is anger.
Lyra needed to get angry and no one in her entire life has hurt her as Becky has, and it’s funny to her that by trying to hold her down all she’s done is unlocked the side of her that’s capable of beating the crap out of her and ensure she can never poison what it means to be the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
Lynch says the only thing poisoned is her point of view and she scoffs at the notion that she’s hurt her more than anyone else and thinks Valkyria was just looking for an excuse to hate her so she can replace her, but nobody can do that. She didn’t want to hurt Lyra, just make her better, but that’s all changed now and she knows the thing that will hurt er most is when she has to raise her hand.
Becky storms off and Lyra says that’s more big words and she oughta put money where her mouth is and give Tulsa a little preview right now. Lynch comes back and says she doesn’t fight in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and she’ll see her in Los Angeles for Money in the bank.
Valkyria charges down the ramp after her and they brawl briefly before referees separate them!
We get some basketball footage as commentary explains the bet that Michael Cole lost again.
A hype reel for Penta follows.
Jey Uso and Sami Zayn make their entrance together through the crowd and we go to break.
Bron Breakker & “Big” Bronson Reed vs. “Main Event” Jey Uso & Sami Zayn
Breakker and Uso to start, Bron rushing him into the corner with shoulder blocks, Jey gets away, enzuigiri in the corner, rolling into a lateral press for two! Whip across, Bron ducks under and bowls him over with a huge elbow as we go to break!
Back from commercial, Reed and Sami legal, Zayn breaks away with chops only to get rammed into the corner for the cutoff! Breakker with a cheapshot while the referee is occupied with Bronson, double whip puts Zayn in the corner and they bowl him over before covering him for two! Sami lands a tornado DDT on Reed, the path is clear, reaching, crawling, tags made!
Uso taking Bron down with lariats, right hands, big slicer, Breakker cuts him off with the fireman’s carry double knee gutbuster and the straps are down! Off the ropes, head of steam, Jey cuts him down to size with a superkick… SO CLOSE! Uso with the sleeper hold, falling back, the hooks are in… BRONSON REED BREAKS IT UP WITH A SENTON!
Sami comes in to neutralize Reed but he eats a corner body avalanche and Bronson takes him to the apron, big splash… ZAYN ROLLS AWAY AND REED CRASHES TO THE FLOOR! Sami passes Breakker to the floor, plancha, the heels catch him but Uso dives to wipe them out! Seth Rollins comes running down out of nowhere, Blackout on Uso…
Jey Uso & Sami Zayn win by disqualification, presumably.
Post-match, Zayn attacks Rollins until Bron and Bronson cut him off! Seth directing traffic, they put him on the desk, Rollins wants Reed up top… CM PUNK MAKES THE SAVE CHAIR IN HAND! HE WALLOPS BRON AND THROWS IT AT BRONSON’S FACE! He confronts Rollins in the ring but Seth beats a hasty retreat!
Rollins confers with Breakker and Reed and tells them they have Punk right where they want him and they know where he’ll be later tonight.
Finn Balor is holding court in the Judgment Day clubhouse when Liv Morgan rolls up.
She confronts Balor about Roxanne Perez and says she sees exactly what is happening. Finn says she’s just here to help and he thinks Morgan is just frustrated because things haven’t gone her way two weeks in a row. Meanwhile, Perez has helped him and JD get back on track to the tag titles and she’s gonna win Money in the Bank for them.
Balor admits she came on strong but she’s real helpful and she can trust Dominik Mysterio. She says Dom isn’t the one she doesn’t trust, and she shoots Finn’s plan to have Roxanne in Raquel Rodriguez’s corner later tonight down and says she’ll do it.
Dom rushes over to apologize for the chair stuff last week and Balor tells him it’s all water under the bridge.
Kairi Sane makes her entrance to send us to break.
Kairi Sane vs. Raquel Rodriguez
Sane in with a waistlock, Rodriguez spins her around, wristlock, Kairi ducks a lariat, back to the waistlock, tijeras out of the ropes, la casadora into a bulldog and Sane is fired up! Off the ropes, sliding forearm, Raquel out to the floor! Rodriguez swings her into the apron hard, Liv Morgan rushes in with a cheap kick to the ribs while Raquel has referee Eddie Orengo distracted!
Kairi keeping her wits about her but Rodriguez hosses her up into the corner with back elbows aplenty! Jockeying for position in the turnbuckles, Sane dives with a crossbody but gets caught! Raquel lifts her up, vertical suplex countered into a DDT! Sane off the ropes, kicks her leg out of her leg, axe kick to the neck, forearms and chops to try and cut Rodriguez down!
Whip reversed, dropkick into a running blockbuster! Marching to the corner, sliding elbow in the corner and Kairi goes up top but Liv runs interference and Raquel clobbers her down! IYO SKY IS HERE TO HELP HER PAL! She lays Morgan out, Raquel grabs IYO’s hair but Sane blasts her with a huge boot that donks her head into the post hard and loud! Off the top…
Kairi Sane wins by pinfall with the diving elbow.
Post-match Liv is bleeding from the forehead and Kairi indulges IYO with hugs and kisses for the save!
Karrion Kross runs into Sami Zayn backstage.
Zayn explodes on him and asks why he’s so obsessed with him and Kross explains that he thinks he’s lying to himself and to everybody and he could have been a world champion a dozen times over, and moreover, he’s not a good guy, he’s a bad guy just like the rest of them. Sami tells him he’s wrong and Karrion admits that he might be… but he might be right, too.
AJ Styles is shown getting warmed up backstage and we go to break.
Back from commercial, commentary hypes up Worlds Collide and Money in the Bank.
We get a hype reel for Jey Uso’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign.
In the locker room, GUNTHER rolls up on Jey.
He says the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is personal to him and he appreciates all the effort Uso is putting in to being a great champion, but he’s still going to take it. Jey is a great guy, selfless in a selfish business, he helped Sami Zayn tonight when he needed him and now it’s one week out from their title match and he’s not at 100%.
And he’s sure if CM Punk needs help in the main event tonight he’ll help him too. And at Money in the Bank, Jey will tag with Cody Rhodes to help him out, just two days before their match. But all of that is not the business of the world champion, and he knew when he lost the title that he would take it back, and Uso is making it very easy for him. And in one week, the party is over.
Jey stands up and gets in his face and reminds GUNTHER that he tapped.
AJ Styles makes his entrance to send us to break.
