Hull KR extended their advantage at the summit of Super League to four points after defeating fellow Challenge Cup finalists Warrington Wolves, securing their eleventh victory of the season.
Jack Broadbent gave Hull KR the lead, but Warrington responded with a try scored by Dan Russell shortly thereafter.
Tom Davies and Mikey Lewis scored tries to put Bristol City ahead before halftime, with Joe Burgess adding another touchdown later to extend their lead.
Josh Thewlis narrowed the gap for Warrington following Tyrone May’s contribution which put the visitors ahead by 18 points. However, Davies’ second try of the night along with a daring last-minute drop-goal from Lewis secured a convincing win for Hull KR.
This outcome extends Hull KR’s outstanding performance in the 2025 season and strengthens their position at the top of the Super League table, as Wigan Warriors, who currently sit in second place, won’t be competing until they face Catalans on Saturday.
Warrington, on the other hand, struggled to mount a response once KR edged into the lead on what turned out to be a comfortable night for their opponents, who have lost just once in league and cup this season.
Broadbent’s opener came after Rodrick Tai failed to pick him up but Warrington made amends four minutes later when Ben Currie sent Russell through.
Warrington’s slender lead, courtesy of Josh Thewlis’ kick, did not last for long as the hosts failed to deal with Jez Litten’s offload leaving May to send a lofted ball to Davies to cross over.
Lewis, on his 100th Super League appearance, scored his 10th try of the season having shook off a tackle to twist and turn over for Hull KR’s third of the night.
After video referee Ben Thaler determined that Burgess hadn’t entered into a try when lunging dramatically towards the corner, the scoring attempt was disallowed.
In May’s attempt, he benefited from a well-executed cross-field play initiated by KR, splitting Warrington wide open. Initially, Peta Hiku teamed up with Arthur Mourgue for a quick exchange of passes; subsequently, Hiku delivered a precise pass to send May racing through for a powerful touchdown.
Disturbed, though, Thewlis scored shortly after and added the conversion to reduce the visitors’ lead to 12 points. However, Davies’ try at the corner flag coupled with Lewis’ clever drop-goal secured the victory.
Sam Burgess’ team will confront Hull KR once more in the Challenge Cup final in slightly over two weeks, and they aim to curb what has become a notable effort from the Robins this season.
