The football program has been running throughout much of the offseason. This week, South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer gave a clear update on who might start: “He will definitely return,” said Beamer.

Beamer disclosed that Swain must await the commencement of the summer semester at the university before he can reconnect with his team. That start date will be set for the Tuesday following Memorial Day (May 27). This comes as welcome information for Gamecock supporters, anticipating Swain’s significant contribution to South Carolina’s defense line in 2025.
Last season as a redshirt freshman, Swain played in all 13 games for the Gamecocks in 2024. He had the sixth-highest number of plays among South Carolina’s defensive backs with 314 snaps, recording 13 tackles along with one forced fumble during a game.

If Swain continues to excel academically, he should be part of that team soon enough. There are also several other defenders on Beamer’s list who fit this description.

All of them are anticipated to vie for playing time during this upcoming offseason.
Before college, Swain was a four star recruit according to the Big One Newsdustry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 204 overall player in his recruiting cycle, as well as the No. 5 ATH in his class.
Once back on the field, it will have been roughly three months since his return when the Gamecocks start their 2025 regular season. Following a successful 9-4 campaign in 2024, South Carolina aims to make further progress this year with an impressive defensive secondary and a talented quarterback leading the way.
