Back in March, the

San Francisco 49ers

were expected to win the NFC West over the

Los Angeles Rams

, and here we are in May and guess what? Apparently, the 49ers are still expected to pass the Rams for the NFC West title.

To be frank, I don’t quite understand this perspective. Could the 49ers secure victory in the NFC West? Absolutely, they have the potential. The same goes for them.

Arizona Cardinals

(or even

Seattle Seahawks

), would I choose the 49ers to win the NFC West at this moment? No, even disregarding my inclination as a Rams supporter, I believe the Rams have an advantage over the 49ers.

I’m generally not one for gambling, but if you enjoy it, this might be an opportune moment to place your bets on the Rams winning the NFC West (remember to gamble responsibly). I’m interested to find out if this prediction holds true by September.

The 49ers are expected to take the lead in the NFC West ahead of the Rams, even though they finished at the bottom in 2024.

“As competitive as the NFC West has been over the years, it’s a division that’s been owned by the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers since Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan took over their respective teams in 2017. In eight seasons, the Rams have won the division four times, the 49ers have won it three times and the Seattle Seahawks have won it once – which came in 2020 when the Rams beat Seattle in the playoffs.

In the previous season, the Rams topped the West Division with a record of 10-7, whereas the 49ers trailed significantly behind at 6-11, placing them dead last in their division for the first time since 2020.

In anticipation of the 2025 season, both the Rams and the 49ers are expected to be frontrunners yet again. When assessing which squad holds the highest probability for clinching the division title, DraftKings Sportsbook suggests that the 49ers have an edge. As per their projections, the 49ers lead with odds set at +145 to secure victory in the West region, followed closely behind by the Rams who stand at +200 according to DraftKings.
