Texas Longhorns Baseball Eliminated from SEC Tournament
After winning the
regular-season SEC championship
, the Texas
Longhorns
didn’t survive the SEC postseason tournament for long. The top-seeded Texas team was eliminated with a score of 7-5 after 12 innings by
the Tennessee Volunteers
In Hoover, Alabama, on Thursday evening.
Thanks to their victory in the regular season, Texas secured a double bye and moved forward to the quarterfinals of the tournament. However, this advantage did not prove beneficial.
The Longhorns established a 4-0 advantage after four innings, however, the Vols gradually clawed their way back into the contest with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
During the 10th inning, Tennessee’s leading-off player, Gavin Kilen, hit a solo home run which put the Vols ahead for the first time that day. In the latter part of the 10th inning, Texas equalized when first baseman Kimble Schuessler singled, allowing catcher Ryan Galvan to score.
After Kilen hit a two-run double in the 12th inning, Tennessee emerged victorious. Throughout the game, Kilen managed two hits out of six at-bats, contributed three RBIs, and crossed home plate twice. Freshman of the Year from the SEC, Dylan Volantis, faced his inaugural defeat of the season.
Now, Texas awaits Selection Monday to find out where it will be placed in the NCAA baseball tournament.
