On Saturday, the Chicago White Sox acquired right-handed pitcher Yoendrys Gomez via waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and subsequently released outfielder Greg Jones.

Gomez, who is 25 years old, is now entering his third team of the season as he was selected off waivers by the Dodgers from the New York Yankees recently. This year, across nine relief outings, he has accumulated a record of 1-1 along with a 6.28 ERA and one three-out save.

Across 15 Major League games spanning portions of three years, Gomez has recorded a 1-1 win-loss record along with a 4.88 earned run average.

Jones, 27, was 0-for-3 in three games for the White Sox this season. He is 1-for-8 in nine career games after a short stint with the Colorado Rockies last season.

As an additional transaction, the White Sox decided to select the contract of first baseman Tim Elko from their Triple-A affiliate, Charlotte. Meanwhile, they placed infielder Nick Maton on waivers by designating him for assignment.

Elko, who is 26 years old, is set to make his Major League debut following his impressive performance of hitting .348 with 10 home runs and 23 RBIs across 31 games played at Charlotte. He started in the lineup and batted eighth during Saturday’s home match versus the Miami Marlins.

Maton, who is 28 years old, had been hitting .167 with two home runs and four RBIs in his last 25 games for the White Sox. Throughout his five-season career across four teams, he has maintained a batting average of .201, accumulating 17 home runs in total during those 209 appearances.
