Woman arrested after embezzling $46,000 from Nebraska Sports Council, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — A Lincoln woman is accused of embezzling thousands of dollars as an administrator with the Nebraska Sports Council, according to police.
Lincoln Police said 43-year-old Jessica Framke turned herself into authorities on May 1. She has since been released from police custody and charged with a single felony count of theft by unlawful taking $5,000+.
Framke, who previously served as the director of administration for the Nebraska Sports Council, is accused of embezzling more than $46,000 from the organization.
According to police, Framke issued herself 14 extra paychecks and used the council’s funds to make personal purchases at Sam’s Club and on Amazon. Authorities think she also used council money to pay for her health care.
The 14 checks were worth roughly $36,000, police said. The alleged embezzlement is thought to have happened between Jan. 13, 2023, and Sept. 20, 2024.
The Nebraska Sports Council issued the following statement after discovering discrepancies in its finances earlier this month:
